How it works
From open app to in tune
Six short steps. No account, no setup.
- 01
Open the tuner
The Tuner tab is the first screen. It starts on guitalele tuning (A D G C E A). To tune a guitar instead, tap the tuning name at the top and choose Guitar.
- 02
Allow the microphone
The first time you open the tuner your phone asks for microphone access. Choose Allow so the app can hear your strings. If you said no, tap Settings in the banner or see Support.
- 03
Pluck one string and let it ring
Play a single open string. In AUTO mode the app works out which string it is. The meter needle moves left if the string is flat and right if it is sharp.
- 04
Turn the peg until it is in tune
Tighten the peg to raise the pitch, loosen it to lower it. When the needle sits on the red line and the status shows IN TUNE, move to the next string.
- 05
Need to hear the note?
Tap a string button to hear its reference tone and lock onto that string. Tune your string to match what you hear.
- 06
Explore chords
Open the Chords tab, pick Guitalele or Guitar, and tap any chord to see the diagram large and hear it played.
Tips for a steady reading
- Tune in a quiet room.
- Hold the phone near the sound hole.
- Pluck firmly once instead of strumming, and let the note ring.
- Go round the strings again at the end; tightening one string can slightly change the others.
