App: Guitalele Tuner & Chords · Effective and last updated: 20 October 2026
Draft for developer review. Items highlighted in red must be confirmed or replaced before publication. This page describes the app as built; it is not legal advice.
1. Summary
- Guitalele Tuner & Chords (the “app”) is a tuner, chord library and guide for guitalele and guitar, provided by Ravishan Premerathne (individual developer) (“we”, “us”).
- The app uses your device microphone to detect the pitch of the string you play. Audio is processed on your device in real time and is not recorded, saved or sent to us.
- The app has no accounts, no backend servers of ours, and contains no advertising, analytics or crash-reporting code.
- We do not collect, sell or share your personal information. The one network interaction we are aware of is described in section 5.
At a glance
| Data | Collected by us? | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Microphone audio | No | Analysed in memory on your device, then discarded |
| Name, email, account, location, contacts, photos, payments | No | Never requested |
| Advertising ID, analytics, crash reports | No | No such code in the app |
| Fonts (Google Fonts download) | Not by us | Requested from Google by the font package; see section 5 |
| Messages you send us for support | Yes, only what you send | Our email provider; used to reply |
2. Information we collect
We do not operate servers that receive data from the app, and the app does not ask you to create an account or provide your name, email address, location, contacts, photos or payment details. We therefore do not collect personal information through the app.
If you contact us (for example by email for support), we receive the information you choose to send, such as your email address and message, and use it only to reply and improve the app.
3. Microphone and audio
- Purpose: the microphone is used only by the Tuner screen to measure the pitch of your instrument. It listens only while the Tuner screen is visible.
- Processing: audio is read from the microphone as a stream, analysed in memory to estimate frequency, and discarded. The app has no code that writes microphone audio to a file or sends it over a network.
- Not used for: speech recognition, voice identification, advertising or profiling.
- Playback: reference tones and chord sounds are generated by the app itself on the device; no audio is downloaded.
4. Local storage on your device
The app does not store your settings, tuning history or audio in a database. Generated tone data is held in memory while the app runs. If the interface fonts are downloaded (see below), they are cached in the app’s private storage on your device so they don’t need to be fetched again. Uninstalling the app removes this cache. The app does not intentionally read or use advertising identifiers or other device identifiers.
5. Third-party services and SDKs
The app is built with Flutter and uses these open-source packages. None of them is an analytics, advertising or crash-reporting SDK.
| Package | Used for | Data sent off-device by us |
|---|---|---|
record | Reading the microphone stream | None |
permission_handler | Requesting microphone permission | None |
audioplayers | Playing generated reference tones and chords | None |
google_fonts | Interface typefaces (Space Grotesk, Work Sans) | See below |
Google Fonts
The app’s fonts are not bundled in the app package; the google_fonts package downloads them from Google’s font servers the first time they are needed, when the device is online. When that happens, Google receives standard connection information such as your IP address and device/OS details, as with any web request. Google’s handling of that data is described in Google’s privacy policy. No audio or user-entered data is included. If the device is offline, a system font is used instead.
6. Sharing and disclosure
We do not sell, rent or share personal information, because we do not receive any through the app. We may disclose correspondence you send us only where required by law.
7. Retention and deletion
Because audio is not stored and no account data exists, there is nothing in the app for us to retain or delete on your behalf. Uninstalling the app removes everything it stored on your device. To delete correspondence you sent us, email the privacy contact below and ask; we will confirm once it is done. Support emails are kept for as long as needed to resolve your request and for up to 12 months afterwards, and you may ask us to delete them sooner at any time.
8. Managing permissions
The app requests the microphone permission when you open the tuner. You can change it at any time: on iOS, Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone; on Android, Settings → Apps → Guitalele Tuner & Chords → Permissions → Microphone. Turning it off withdraws your consent immediately: the tuner stops listening and cannot work, but the Chords tab and the guide remain available. Closing the Tuner screen or the app also stops the microphone.
9. Security
Since audio stays on your device and is not transmitted, it is protected by your device’s own security. No method of electronic storage is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Keep your operating system up to date.
10. Children’s privacy
The app is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your region), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. In the app stores the app is rated for everyone (Google Play: Everyone; App Store: 4+).
11. International transfers
We do not transfer personal data from the app to other countries because we do not collect it. Font downloads (section 5) may be served by Google from locations outside your country. Emails you send us are processed by Google (Gmail).
12. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, UK GDPR or CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict use of personal data we hold about you, and to complain to your data-protection authority. We hold no app data about you, but you can contact us about any correspondence at the address below. The controller for any correspondence you send us is Ravishan Premerathne, 324/7 Biyagama Road, Pattiya, Kelaniya, Sri Lanka (contact details below). Sri Lanka’s Personal Data Protection Act, No. 9 of 2022, may also apply to that correspondence.
13. Changes to this policy
If the app’s features or dependencies change in ways that affect your privacy, we will update this page and its “last updated” date, and where required, notify you in the app or the store listing.
