47 chord diagrams for a six-string guitalele in standard A D G C E A tuning. They are the same shapes as the Chords tab in the Guitalele Tuner & Chords app.
The six vertical lines are the strings. The lowest string, A (string 6), is on the left and the highest, A (string 1), is on the right.
Horizontal lines are frets; the thick line at the top is the nut. If a diagram starts higher up the neck, the starting fret is shown on the right (for example 3fr).
A filled dot is where a finger presses. A long bar is a barre: one finger flat across several strings.
○ above a string means play it open; × means don’t play it.
Under each diagram: the fret for each string from 6 to 1 (x = muted), the notes that sound, and the guitar chord with the same finger shape.
Why guitalele chord names differ from guitar
A guitalele is tuned five semitones (a fourth) higher than a guitar, but the intervals between its strings are the same. So every guitar chord shape works on a guitalele, it just sounds a fourth higher, and gets a different name:

The chart below already uses the guitalele names, so you can read a song’s chord sheet without translating. If your guitalele is not in standard tuning, these names won’t match; see the guitalele tuning guide first.
Good chords to start with
The open shapes need no barre and cover many simple songs: C, F, G, D, A, Am, Dm and Gm are in the major and minor sections below. Barre chords such as B♭ and Cm use the same shapes as on guitar; the guitalele’s shorter neck means smaller stretches, but they still take practice.

Check your chords by ear
A chord only sounds right if the guitalele is in tune. Tune all six strings first, then strum each string of the chord slowly to hear any note that buzzes or is muted by a finger.
In the Guitalele Tuner & Chords app, the Chords tab shows these diagrams and plays each chord, so you can compare your guitalele with the expected sound. You can switch the tab to guitar names if you also play guitar. The app isn’t in the stores yet.
